Delray Beach
First settled in 1894, Delray Beach's origins are rooted in agriculture. Japanese farmers arrived around the turn of the century to grow pineapples. Henry Flagler's expansion of his railroad system from West Palm Beach to Miami opened new markets that allowed the agricultural community to thrive and also opened up Delray Beach to the tourist trade.
Today, Delray has emerged as an attractive and thriving city attracting visitors and locals alike to its beaches, restaurants, cultural centers, shops and art galleries.
Delray Beach is the only city in Florida to win the prestigious All-America City Award on two occasions (1993 and 2001). The award is presented annually to ten communities for extraordinary civic accomplishments made possible by the cooperative efforts of business, government, the voluntary sector, and individuals.
Travel and sightseeing literature is available in the Patron Laundry Room. Menus of various nearby restaurants are available at the Office.
